High-level symposium and award ceremony to "Showcase and Reward European Public Excellence" -
A story of success...

In the evening of 4 November 2009, the former Mayor of Maastricht - Mr. G.b.M. Leers - welcomed the 200 EPSA 2009 participants at the city's picturesque town hall where this year's best practice certificates were handed over. This evening marked the official starting point of two days devoted to innovative problem-solving approaches within four highly relevant European thematic areas offering you the possibility to exchange and learn from the EPSA 2009 experience.

The activities were continued on 5 November 2009 at the Province House of Limburg, the place where the Treaty of Maastricht was signed in 1992. In plenary sessions, leading figures and notabilities - among them Vladimir Špidla, the European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities and Mats Odell, Swedish Minister for Local Government & Financial Markets - discussed future challenges of public sector actors in the new global environment. The most anticipated part of the event took place in the evening. During a two-hour ceremony - which was followed by a festive dinner - the 2009 EPSA award winners were announced and received the EPSA 2009 trophy which were handed over by in four categories by Siim Kallas - Vice-President European Commission and European Commissioner for Administrative Affairs, Audit & Anti-Fraud, Ank Bijleveld - State Secretary of Dutch Ministry of the Interior & Kingdom Relations, Mats Odell - Swedish Minister for Local Government & Financial Markets, Swedish Ministry of Finance, Stockholm and Gerd Leers - former Mayor of Maastricht.

The symposium concluded with four parallel thematic workshops on Friday 6 November during which the award nominees and EPSA 2009 winners presented and discussed their projects. This last activity marked the starting point for the development of the EPSA 2009 learning platform, bringing the motto "showcasing and learning from European Public Excellence" to life.
